Viviene D. (Smith) Ackman, 86, of Oblong, IL passed away on Sunday November 18, 2018 at her residence in Oblong, IL.

She was born in Oblong, IL on November 28, 1931 to Ocie and Dorothy (Welsh) Smith Sr.  On June 6, 1949 she married Orman Carroll Ackman who preceded her in death on January 23, 1991.

Vivienne had worked at Briggs Manufacturing at a secretary and later worked at Victor Dana as a Press Operator, retiring in 1993.  She was a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Oblong and also attended the First Christian Church in Oblong.  She was a member of the Oblong High School Class of 1949, Women of the Moose, Eastern Star-Oblong, Home Extension and the Red Cross.  She enjoyed putting crafts together and flower and herb gardening; but most of all enjoyed the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law John Ackman, Oblong, IL, Steve and Shirley Ackman, Sun City, FL, Jim and Tonya Ackman, Effingham, IL, and Scott and Jana Ackman, Oblong, IL; one daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Don Simmons, Robinson, IL.  She is also survived by twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law Jerry and Marilyn Smith, Falls Church, VA, one sister and brother-in-law Helen and John Larrabee, and a sister-in-law Janet Smith Jr. Oblong, IL.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and brother Ocie Smith Jr.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 1:00 – 3:00 P.M. on Sunday December 9, 2018 at Pulliam Funeral Home in Oblong, IL. Burial will be in Oblong Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that expressions of sympathy may take the form of a contribution to the Refuge House Ministries of Oblong or the American Red Cross.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed to Pulliam Funeral Home P.O. Box 121 Oblong, IL 62449.
